Neiafu harbor is called ‘Port of Refuge’, it’s an excellent hurricane hole. The alternative was to head to New Zealand where it’s cold and windy. 80kts isn’t uncommon in a lot of places. It’s pretty pleasant here, but you take the off chance of having to weather a big one.

Absolutely, they are poisonous, but their fangs are way back in their throats so they can only bite things that are small enough for them to swallow. Also they’re not aggressive, you can push them out of the way and they’ll swim off

Sneaky little things those schedules… you tell your family they can buy plane tickets to meet you in New Zealand because you'll be spending cyclone season there and making some repairs, tell some kiwis that you'll pop in to visit… suddenly you've got one.
